4 Things in Northwest Arkansas Nobody's Talking About

A 400,000-square-foot office building just opened at Pinnacle in Rogers after roughly two years of construction, and it is one of the largest new office developments the region has seen. That is one of four things worth knowing about right now — alongside a children's museum expansion, a national number-one ranking for a physical therapy program in Fayetteville and a new Italian restaurant in downtown Springdale.

1. The Amazeum Is Building a New Campus Addition

The Scott Family Amazeum in Bentonville has announced a major campus expansion called the Hangout, opening this fall after a capital campaign.

The addition includes a new lounge, river rooms, early learning spaces and an outdoor component. If you have not been, the Amazeum is a hands-on children's museum — tactile, build-it-yourself exhibits, including a grocery-store-themed play area. It sounds slight written down and is enormously popular in practice.

When the Amazeum announces something, it is worth paying attention. It is one of the most heavily used family attractions in the region, and an expansion of this size suggests demand has outgrown the existing building.

2. A Physical Therapy Program in Fayetteville Ranks First in the Nation

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Doctor of Physical Therapy program, based at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Fayetteville, was ranked number one out of roughly 305 programs nationally for first-time board exam pass rates.

Worth being precise here, because it is easy to get wrong: this is UAMS, not the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. They have been separate institutions since 1995, and the program simply sits on the UAMS campus in Fayetteville.

This is worth flagging because Arkansas carries a reputation for weak healthcare, and statewide that criticism has some basis. But NWA is a different picture — both for care and for medical training. A steady stream of people move here to train as physicians, complete residencies or work as nurses, and the region's medical education infrastructure is consistently underrated from outside. Dentists and attorneys who trained or work in the area report doing well here too.

3. Gaskins Opens an Italian Restaurant in Downtown Springdale

The team behind Gaskins on Emma — the well-regarded steakhouse on Emma Avenue — has opened an Italian restaurant in Springdale called Gaskins Trattoria.

Downtown Springdale has changed dramatically over the past six years. Investment from the Walton, Hunt and Tyson families has reshaped the district, and it now has new restaurants, public art, a riverwalk and regular music programming where there was very little before.

A local operator opening a second concept is a specific kind of good sign. It means there is enough business in the region to support growth, and it means people here actively want to spend money with local restaurants rather than chains. If you are looking for somewhere to eat this week, that is your answer.

4. The Visionaries Opens at Pinnacle in Rogers

The largest of the four: a 400,000-square-foot building called the Visionaries was ribbon-cut in July at Pinnacle in Rogers. It sits on South J.B. Hunt Drive across from Topgolf and near the Walmart AMP, and it is among the biggest buildings in the region — the Walmart headquarters is larger, though that is a campus of several buildings rather than one.

The building is designed to house businesses, with restaurant space as part of the mix. Table Mesa and Mirabella's have both signed on for a dining concept expected to open in 2027.

The tenant logic is the important part. Nestlé is the anchor office tenant and Anheuser-Busch has signed as well, joining a long list of major consumer brands with offices in the Rogers area. They are here for one reason: they supply Walmart and Sam's Club, and proximity to the buyer matters. A new 400,000-square-foot building near the Walmart campus is essentially purpose-built for more of that.

For anyone moving here and wondering what the job market actually looks like beyond Walmart itself, this is the answer. Some of the largest companies in the world staff offices in NWA specifically to be close to their biggest customer.
